HIS NATURE
HIS NATURE is part of the Covenant Group Discipleship Series, a discipleship mentoring tool that develops personal devotional habits (e.g. daily reflection on Scriptures, application, and prayer) in the context of a highly relational small group (covenant group) experience. The series is designed to train men to walk with God for a lifetime as a full devoted disciple. Discipleship is not a curriculum; it is a lifelong pursuit of Christlikeness. Each journal in the Covenant Group Discipleship Series is built around three major pursuits of a disciple: Knowing Christ deeply, Reflecting Christ authentically, and Sharing Christ intentionally.
In HIS NATURE, we explore six (6) character traits of a disciple of Christ, set forth in 2 Peter 1.
- Moral excellence
- True knowledge
- Self-control
- Hopeful persistence
- Reverent wonder
- Genuine love
▪ The life skills developed in HIS NATURE include developing consistency in our newly acquired Appointment with God (AWG) habit. In HIS NATURE, we add the skill of memorizing 6 bible verses and practice deepening our scripture reflection through a weekly planned meditation exercise.
Note: If you have not yet developed the Appointment with God (AWG) habit, we recommend HIS GLORY (a good introductory journal) or HIS WORKS (journal 1 of the Adventure Series) before commencing HIS NATURE.
Knowing Christ deeply, reflecting Christ authentically, and sharing Christ intentionally are pursuits representing our vertical relationship with God, our inward, transformational relationship, and our outward relationship with others. HIS NATURE is not a typical Bible study with questions to answer. It is a guided self-discovery approach training men to feed themselves on Scripture. The primary spiritual practice foundational to every Covenant Group Discipleship journal is the daily appointment with God (AWG). Through this habit, a man is trained in hearing God speak through His Word, reflect on what he has heard, and apply it to his life.
