HIS COMMISSION
The first disciples’ mission was to take the transforming truth of Christ and to expose, explain and expand it into every crack and crevasse of every culture. This was their commission from Christ and his commission is for every generation of his followers. HIS COMMISSION is a worldwide movement based on Jesus and his kingdom. It was no small vision and task for a tiny, politically and socially insignificant group of men and women in the first century. Christian history testifies to the struggle to keep both the message and the method clear. It’s easy for the message to become cluttered, and for methods to get confused. From the gospel accounts, it becomes clear: men were Jesus’ method. He focused primarily on the lives of a few and spread his message through their faithful witness. This is the model Jesus left us to emulate.
In HIS COMMISSION, we will look at the essence of the grand mission to make disciples. We look back into the teaching and modeling of Jesus, as he trained and taught his first disciples. We will also learn basic skills to disciple others. As we progress through HIS COMMISSION, we will catch a vision of how we can be part of the legacy of those who made disciples before us. Since Jesus first shared his commission with his disciples, the mission has been carried forth by ordinary people who are following Christ and are willing to take others with them. It is simple…yet profound. We are invited to be part of God’s mission on earth.
▪ HIS COMMISSION is best used as the 3rd journal of the Challenge Series. The Challenge Series (comprised of HIS WAYS, HIS CALLING, and HIS COMMISSION) is the second of two training sets that comprise the Covenant Group Discipleship Series. Each journal takes about 12 weeks to complete, depending on the covenant group meeting schedule.
